If Kingdon Ward was not the most accomplished of the 'plant hunters' who scoured Yunnan, Tibet and Burma for garden plants before the middle of the 20th century, he was certainly the most prolific writer. With so many books about his journeys written by Kingdon Ward himself, there is perhaps little that has not been told, but this books fills in a couple of biographical voids and explains why he could not return to Yunnan and Tibet for such a long time at the peak of his career.
