Dong Xian 董贤 was a Buddhist monk during the Ming dynasty.
After the Ming entered Dali in 1382, they began to systematically destroy the culture of the Nanzhao and Dali kingdom.
Dong Xian assembled a great number of Buddhist scriptures and hid them in a wall in the ancestral temple in his home village, now called 北汤天. There, in 1956 the Fei Xiaotong rediscovered the scripts.
