Bisezhai was once the main railway hub on the French-built line connecting the Vietnamese port of Haiphong to Kunming. Passenger railway services stopped here overnight while around the station railway services were clustered: ware-houses, fuel-depots, even a Greek-run guest-house.
For a long while abandoned, Bisezhai has now received a bit of the care required to maintain it as a tourist attraction from a bygone time. Not far away now runs the new line, currently under construction, to Pingbian and Hekou.
Bisezhai is easily reached by minibus to Caoba from Mengzi's old busterminal. There are no services nearby.
